About the Montessori Method
The Montessori Method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, of Italy, in the early 1900’s.
Montessori’s approach was dedicated to making life engaging for children by preparing a classroom environment that will satisfy each student’s ability to concentrate and gain experience in independent work. These skills help the child develop physical, social, and intellectual skills as a catalyst for continued education.
Montessori education is not the force-feeding of information and skills designed to produce a precocious child. The environment is neither rigidly structured and disciplined, nor disorganized and undisciplined. It is a non-competitive place where each child is allowed to focus on her/his own work. Many levels of ability can be accommodated in the classroom, allowing for a match of activities and materials consistent with each child’s needs.
